2000 – Vishwajit Rane started his political career with Congress Party. Parallel to his activities in INC he started an organization named Sattari Yuva Morcha.

2007 – Elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly from Valpoi constituency as an independent Candidate and became the Minister of Health, Agriculture & Craftsmen Training in Government of Goa.

2010 – He resigned as the independent MLA and also as a Cabinet Minister, to contest a by-election from Valpoi constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate. Later joined the Indian National Congress and was sworn in again as the Cabinet Minister the same day.

2012 – Elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly from Valpoi constituency from congress ticket.
