BACKGROUND- Vineet Saran is a Judge of Supreme Court of India. He also was Chief Justice of Odisha High Court.

He done his graduation from Allahabad University. He was born in Bijnor, U.P. He enrolled as an advocate with U.P. Bar Council on 28/07/1980 and practiced in High Court of Allahabad in Civil, Constitutional and Company matters. He served as the Standing Counsel of various Central Government Undertakings and Banks. He has also functioned as Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh.

LANDMARK JUDGEMENTS– 

Chebrolu Leela Prasad Rao v. State of Andhra Pradesh – The 5 Judge Bench including Vineet Saran held that 100% reservation given to Schedule Tribe candidates for the post of Teachers in the school in the scheduled areas in Andhra Pradesh unconstitutional, as there was no reason for resorting 100% reservation by the Government.

TN Medical Officers Association v. Union of India – The 5-judge Constitution Including Vineet Saran held that the Medical Council of India has no power to create any reservation for in-service candidates in Post Graduate Medical Course in States and that only States are allowed to award the benefit of reservation of seats to in-service doctors in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) postgraduate degree courses.

REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT – He became the permanent Judge of Allahabad High court on 14-02-2002 and also was the judge of Karnataka High Court in 2015.

 On 26 February 2016, he was made the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
