Vepa Paratha Sarathi started his career as an Advocate in 1942. He also served as a member of the Law Commission. He made some noteworthy contributions in the field of law. He authored various books on the Law of Evidence. He passed away on 25 January 2012 of acute respiratory disorder. He was the Senior Advocate of Supreme Court and also the Professor at NALSAR.

BACKGROUND- Vepa Paratha Sarathi was born in 1915. He got married to Shanta Devi and they had a daughter together. His only daughter died of Hepatitis.

WALK OF LIFE- Sarathi got enrolled as an Advocate in 1942. He was later designated as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in 1976. He also served as a member of the Law Commission of India, during which he made some noteworthy contributions towards the development of Consumer Law, Promissory Estoppel, and Adhesive Contracts.

During his years as a Senior Advocate, he represented the Government of India in the landmark case of Bhopal Gas Tragedy, as the Learned Attorney General’s Representative. He later served as the Advocate General of Sikkim from 1990-1994 and went on to become the Chairman of the Sikkim Law Commission in 1994. Sarathi was also the Assistant Editor of the Supreme Court reports from 1964-1976.

Sarathi later worked as a visiting professor at the NALSAR University, Hyderabad until he died in 2012.

MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN- Sarathi authored books on Evidence law, Transfer of Property, and Interpretation of Statutes. He explained the basic concepts in his book in as coherent a manner as possible.
