BACKGROUND – Shiv Nadar is an Indian Business tycoon and Industrialist and also a philanthropist. He is the co-founder and former chairman of HCL Enterprises which is a renowned company in the field of IT sector not only in India but worldwide. He grew up in a simple Tamilian family with working parents.
He started his career as an employee of Walchand group of college in 1967 which he quit afterwards to start his own venture in partnership with his friends and colleagues. They began with a company called Microcomp limited which sold tele digital calculators in India. In 1976 he finally established the HCL enterprises with an investment 1, 87000 INR which is now a pioneer in the industry with a net worth of 513 billion Indian rupees.
HCL has achieved the milestone by launching the country’s first personal microcomputer in 1978 and also helped in building the National Stock Exchange of India under the leadership of Nadar.
He has also worked in the field of education in India and established SSN Engineering College in Tamil Nadu which became India’s first college to be certified from ISO. He also started a full-fledged university by the name Shiv Nadar University in Noida and built Vidyagyan a residential school in Uttar Pradesh.

CONTROVERSY-
HCL tech was questioned by the US Parliament’s home affairs committee under the data destruction scam of News International one of its clients although they denied its involvement later.
Its name was involved in the infamous Wall Street journal circulation scam it was alleged by The Guardian that it was one of the companies that helped the famous newspaper in buying papers at a knock down rate. However, the company declined to comment on this matter.
There was another controversy stirred when some of the Boeing engineers blamed the software coded by HCL technologies and Cyient for the Boeing 737 Max crash.
HCL’s US branch was embroiled in a controversy related to H-1B visa where a suit was filed against it in the US court for discrimination in hiring and abusing the H-1B visa system.
