BACKGROUND- Pallonji Mistry is a construction tycoon. He was the chairman of Shapoorji Pallonji Group. Also, Pallonji is largest stakeholder in the Tata Group.

Pallonji was born in India, but later became the citizen of Ireland. He belonged from the family of businessmen. His father, Shapoorji Pallonji in 1930 brought the shares of Tata Sons. Today these shares have increased to 18.9% making Pallonji the largest stakeholder in the said group.

Within the Tata group, he is also called as Phantom of Bombay House. Now, son of Pallonji Mistry, Cyrus Mistry is the chairman of Tata Sons.

Currently Pallonji is the chairman of Shapoorji Pallonji Group. S.P. Group is Indian conglomerate company, headquartered in Mumbai. This group is indulged in real estate, construction, engineered goods, textiles, power, biotechnology, etc. As a chairman he was the owner of Forbes Textiles, Eureka Forbes and Shapoorji Pallonji Construction Limited. Further, previously he has also served as Associated Cement Companies’ chairman.

He is one of the richest people of Ireland. Also, for his contribution in fields of industry and trade, in the year 2016, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan.

CONTROVERSIES/CASES-

Recently, in the year 2020, due to the ongoing Tata- Mistry dispute, Shapoorji Pallonji Group has approached the Supreme Court of India to formally seek separation from the Tatas. The dispute arose when Pallonji Mistry’s son Cyrus was removed as Tata Son’s chairman. Further, in 2017, Cyrus removal as Tata Sons director on the board bittered the relationship between them.
