Masood Azhar is a Pakistani National radical Islamist and terrorist who have now been listed as an international terrorist by United Nations Security Council on 1st May 2019.
Masood Azhar is Prime accused in various terrorist activities in India. He was arrested in India in February from Khanabal near Anantnag & imprisoned. After 4 years, an Indian airlines flight 814 en route from Kathmandu to New Delhi was hijacked & landed in Kandahar, Afghanistan. They demanded release of 3 militants including Masood Azhar in exchange for hostages, which India unwillingly complied to.
Later, Masood Azhar founded Jaish-e-Mohammad with assistance from Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-services Intelligence (ISI), Taliban regime Osama bin Laden, and multiple Sunni Sectarian organisations based in Pakistan. Now JeM is run by Azhar’s family like a family enterprise.
JeM carried a string of terror attacks on India (claimed 2008 Mumbai attack, 2016 Pathankot attack & 2019 Pulwama attack) including 2001 Indian Parliament attack on 13th December. He was detained in 29th December 2001 for a year by Pakistan authorities but only after a lot of diplomatic pressure from India. Later Lahore High court ordered an end to house arrest of Azhar on 14th December 2002.

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jammu declared terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar as an absconder in the 2019 February Pulwama terror attack case. The NIA had on August 25 filed a charge sheet in the case naming Azhar, his brother Abdul Rauf Asghar, slain terrorist Mohammad Umar Farooq, suicide bomber Adil Ahmed Dar and other terrorist commanders operating from Pakistan.
