BACKGROUND – Ashwath Narayan is the 10th Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and is also the Minister of Higher Education, Science & Technology, Information Technology & Biotechnology, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood at Govt. of Karnataka. He is an MLA from Malleshwaram constituency.
He was born in Bangalore, Karnataka. He completed his MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore where he became president of student’s union and after completing the degree he became president of Junior Doctor’s Association. After passing out, he also got elected as a member of Senate and Syndicate at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Bangalore University.
MAJOR INITIATIVES – In 1996, Ashwath Narayan established Padmashree Charitable Trust and Shushrutha Group of Institution, which are based on a group of educational institutions and which offer various courses in paramedic, management, science and technology, and Ayurvedic medicine.
Dhobi Ghat in Malleshwaram is the first modernized Dhobi Ghat in the State. This initiative of Ashwath Narayan supported livelihood of 400 families and has become a ‘National Model’.
The Anganwadi centers of government in Malleshwaram are being developed on a ‘Montessori’ model, offering the best learning and responsive environment for children, way better than the private preschool centers.
‘MALLESHYWARSAYA’ a citizen-centric platform has been built for citizens to report their grievances and bring about coordination and transparency among various government agencies.

2000 – Founder President of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Employees Association, Bangalore.
2000-2002 –Chairman of Committee for drafting statutes for A&B, C&D cadre of employees of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
2004 –Joined BJP and contested election from Malleshwaram constituency and lost against MLA M.R. Seetharam.
2008 – Contested election from same constituency and won with a big margin and became an MLA.He was promoted to the position of Vice President of the BJP, Bangalore District.
2011 – The Dr. C N Ashwathnarayan Foundation was established and has been aiming to make a difference in the areas of Youth Empowerment, Health, Education, Arts and Culture and Sports.
2012 – Established Malleshwaram Sports Foundation which is a social enterprise in Malleshwaram with broad goal to promote fitness and sports.
2019-2020 – Sworn in as Minister of Medical Education of Karnataka.
2019-2021 –Sworn in as8th Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.
