BACKGROUND –

A.K. Goswami was one of the most senior judges of Gauhati High Court when he was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court. His sense of justice is respected by his peers. He is a cricket enthusiast. He represented Assam at Ranji Trophy and also represented East Zone in Under-19, Under-22, and at the senior level.

He is always open to change whether it is regarding the amendment in the justice system or his personal life. India’s justice system will grow exponentially if we get more people whose mentality is like him.

He started his career by enrolling himself as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh on 16.8.1985. He practiced mainly on Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, and Service matters.

Was the Secretary-General of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association for the period 2000-2001. Later he was designated as Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court on 21.12.2004. Through his sheer hard work, he became Standing Counsel of the Gauhati High Court, Karbi-Anglong Autonomous Council, and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council.

His life as a judge began when he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 24.01.2011 and became a permanent Judge on 07.11.2012. With his exceptional performance he became Acting Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, and finally Chief Justice Andhra Pradesh High Court.

This case was heard in Gauhati High Court by A.S. Bopanna and Arup Kumar Goswami. It was held that a third party questioning the marriage of any other party would not be entitled to maintain proceedings before the Family Court.  It is ruled under Section 7(b) of Family Courts Act 1984.
