US has issued a stern warning to nations engaging in business with Iran, the United States has reiterated the potential risk of sanctions. The statement comes in the wake of a significant deal between India and Iran regarding the Chabahar port.

Speaking at a daily news conference, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel addressed reports of the Iran-India deal concerning the strategic Chabahar port. Patel emphasized that while the US is aware of the agreement, it remains steadfast in its enforcement of sanctions against Iran.

“We’re aware of these reports that Iran and India have signed a deal concerning the Chabahar port,” Patel stated. “US sanctions on Iran remain in place, and we’ll continue to enforce them.”

Highlighting the US stance on business dealings with Iran, Patel emphasized the importance of understanding the potential risks involved. “Any entity, anyone considering business deals with Iran, they need to be aware of the potential risk that they are opening themselves up to and the potential risk of sanctions,” he cautioned.

The warning comes as India and Iran inked a 10-year contract for the operation of a terminal at the Chabahar port. This move is expected to enhance regional connectivity and strengthen trade ties between the two nations.

The development underscores the delicate balance countries must navigate in their foreign policy decisions, particularly in the context of US-Iran relations and the enforcement of sanctions. As nations pursue economic opportunities, they face the challenge of aligning their interests with geopolitical realities and the risk of facing punitive measures from the United States.
