SC seven-judge committee decided to continue keeping Virtual hearing due to increasing cases of COVID-19

The Supreme Court seven-judge Committee of Justices Ramana, Arun Mishra, RF Nariman, UU Lalit, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao has decided not to continue with the virtual hearing in Supreme Court due to increasing cases of COVID 19.

The Committee remained unmoved by the plea that reopening the courts would only be in the interest of justice and the welfare of all the stakeholders involved.

This issue was taken by the committee as there was a rising cases of lawyers taking up other professions as their savings was wiped up by the pandemic.  This committee met on July 24 with the President of SCBA, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave, Chairman of the BCI, Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra and President of SCAORA, Shivaji Jadhav.

It is also being mentioned that acting on the advice of the medical experts the committee has decided against physical hearings. The committee also pitched in the idea of meeting in two weeks to discuss the possibility of opening of the court in a gradual manner.
