A Plea has been filed by senior advocate from Mumbai, Ghanshyam Upadhyay demanding president rule in the state of West Bengal amid reports of post-poll violence in the state.

Upadhyay has claimed that the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has committed “ghastly” crimes against BJP workers after winning the elections.

Upadhyay by his petition requested to carry out President Rule under Article 356(1) and also to hand over the investigation of the matter to a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

While the State Governor, Jagdeep Dhankar has also made similar claims in the past, Upadhyay also demanded a detailed report of law and order in the state of Bengal.

Following the declaration of the results after Mamta Banerjee was defeated by her party’s ex leader and current BJP Member Suvendu Adhikari, he was allegedly attacked by the TMC workers.

While the Home Ministry had also constituted a four-member team to evaluate the situation in West Bengal, the petitions demands for an emergency President rule in the state.
