Loan moratorium case: SC grants Centre, RBI a week to file affidavits

The Apex court today deferred the hearing in the loan moratorium case by another week and now the hearing is scheduled for October 13.

The court director the petitioner and parties to file their respective affidavits by October 12, Mr. Kapil Sibal questioned over the affidavits filed by Centre and asked the court to allow hime time to file a reply to find out the lacunae and to place facts on record. Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta said that they are not opposing it and its on court to grant time to the other party or not.

The Three Judges Bench also said that the affidavit submitted by Centre does not say anything about what has been done with respect to the Kamat Committee report.

Further, court directed RBI and Centre to place to report on record to make a better understanding to people as what benefit is being extended to them while focusing on core issue of eliminatinginterest on interest for borrowers during the moratorium period of six months.
