The Allahabad High Court took cognizance of a letter written by a BHU alumnus, Advocate Tiwari.  The letter written to the Chief Justice was treated as a petition of Habeas Corpus. The letter alleges that a B.Sc. 2nd-year student, Shiv Kumar Trivedi was picked up by certain police personnel who have been missing 12.02.2020. The student was picked up from the M.P. The missing student’s father had also filed a complaint through Chief Proctor’s office of the University on 16.02.2020 but even after six months, no information of the student is available. The letter also mentions that initially, the police denied a report of picking up the student by Lanka Police station but later on showing the proof they accepted the same.

The division bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Samt Gopal had issued notice to the District Magistrate of Varanasi, Senior Superintendent of Police, Varanasi, and Station House Officer, Police Station Lanka. The case will be heard on 25.08.2020 and a short counter affidavit is to be submitted before the next listing date, by Government Advocate.
