While hearing the plea seeking an extension of college admission deadlines, due to the delayed Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) compartment exams, the Supreme Court today directed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to hold the academic calendar until Thursday. The UGC will also inform the Court on when it would notify the compartment exam results by then.
Supreme Court to hear again on September 24, CBSE and UGC will take a joint decision on declaration of results and admissions.
The Court has also asked CBSE to release the results as soon as possible and coordinate with UGC to make sure that those students passing in the exam get admission to colleges and varsities in the current academic year.
A Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Sanjiv Khanna heard the matter today. While addressing UGC, Justice Khanwilkar said, “Don’t release the academic calendar till Thursday. Let CBSE inform us, and then you both coordinate. 2 lakh students is not a small number, and we have to work out a solution in this exceptional year. You need to work in tandem with CBSE.”
Compartment exams are for those students who did not score passing marks in any of the subjects in Class 10 and 12 board exams.
The CBSE compartment exams have begun today, and around 2 lakh students would appear for the exams this year. The examination would end on September 28 for Class 10 and September 29 for Class 12.
