Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government today approved the draft of law to curb unlawful religious conversions.
The new law will provide jail term of 1to 5 years or Rs 15,000 penalty or both for forceful or unlawful religious conversions. Government has made special provisions for conversions of minors and women of SC/SC community, there will be jail term of 3 to 10 years or Rs 25,000 penalty or both.
Uttar Pradesh state Cabinet Minister Siddharth Nath Singh said, “In cases of forced mass conversions, the ordinance provides for jail term of 3 to 10 years with Rs 50,000 penalty. If a person wants to perform marriage after converting into any other religion, they will need to take permission from DM two months before marriage,”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on several occasions in public meeting mentioned that Uttar Pradesh Government is considering bringing strict law to curb love jihad and unlawful religious conversions.
Yogi Recently in Jaunpur that those waging “love jihad” should either mend their ways or be prepared for their final journey-“Ram naam satya hai ki yatra nikalne wali hai”.
