The Centre notified the Delhi High Court that Zydus Cadila’s DNA-based Covid-19 vaccine ZyCoV-D for the 12-18 age groups has completed its clinical testing and that it might soon be accessible, and that a policy on vaccination will be created after receiving approval.

Zydus Cadila, which develops DNA vaccines, has completed its trials for the 12-18 age ranges, according to Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, who testified before a division bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh. Sharma told the court that the vaccine could be available in the near future, pending statutory approval.

He also told the court that the Drug Controller General of India has permitted Bharat Biotech, the maker of Covaxin, to conduct clinical vaccine trials for the 2-18 age group.

The vaccine manufacturers had also said that at the beginning, it could produce four to five lakh doses a month, which would eventually rise to one crore doses monthly once their new manufacturing facility becomes operational from July-end.

The submission was made in response to a petition that wanted minors and their parents to be made a priority group in Delhi’s vaccination drive.
