Ukrainian Court freezes property of Former President Petro Poroshenko

On January 6, 2022 a Ukraine based Court froze properties of Former President of Ukraine- Petro Poroshenko due to the ongoing investigation in regards with high treason case that the former President is allegedly involved in during his tenure as the President from year 2014-2015.

The Prosecutors in the case have Accused the Former President Petro Poroshenko of allegedly being involved with separatist groups which are financially backed by Russia based in Eastern Ukraine.

A Court document read, “The Pechersk district court of Kyiv upheld the prosecutor’s petition regarding the freezing of property of the fifth President of Ukraine, MP Petro Poroshenko, who is suspected by Ukrainian law enforcement officers of high treason and aiding terrorism.”

The Prosecutor General’s Office stated, “The court decided to seize the suspect’s property, which belongs to him on the right of ownership.”

The seizure of property of Former Ukrainian President is said to be a revenge by the current and newly appointed President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. A Lawmaker from the political party of Petro Poroshenko named Volodymyr Ariev stated, “A weak president … uses manual prosecution, manual investigation, and manual justice to punish opponents.”

An advisor of Volodymyr Zelenskiy named Mykhailo Podolyak stated, “They need to say something loud to distract attention and not explain Poroshenko’s de facto flight abroad from investigative actions, …The status of ex-president does not give the privilege to ignore investigative actions and court hearings.”
