The Texas Supreme Court dismissed Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton’s plea to reinstate a ban on mask mandates in Schools.

In May, Abbott issued an executive order prohibiting mask mandates in Public schools and most other Government Institutions. Despite opposition from schools and even President Biden, who called the ban “bad health policy,” Abbott has stood by his decision.

In addition, a Travis County judge’s temporary restraining orders against Abbott’s ban on mask mandate were upheld by the Court.

The State Supreme Court has ruled that Public schools can mandate students to wear facial coverings.

The Texas Education Agency stated that it will not enforce Abbott’s mask mandate ban in Public schools. In its updated guidance, School districts must now notify staff and student families about COVID-19 cases, as well as continue to investigate and report cases to their Local Health Departments.

By issuing mask mandates, seven counties and 48 school districts have disobeyed the Governor.
