Telangana HC reserves its order Custodial death case of Mariamma

On Monday, the Telangana High Court reserved its order in a Custodial death case of a Dalit woman Mariamma who died in in the Custody of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate at Addagudur.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice A Rajasheker Reddy reserved the Judgement after listening Advocate General BS Prasad.

Mr. Prasad educated the Court about the steps taken by the State Government as well as Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat till now in the said case.

Mr. Prasad informed the Court that Rachakonda Police Commissioner has looked into the ongoing Probe and accordingly suspended three policemen, a sub-inspector two constables.

“Not only dismissal from service, we had even booked criminal cases against the accused cops both under the provisions of the IPC and also certain sections of the SC/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. We have also provided a job to the kin of Mariamma,” stated Mr. Prasad.

Mr. Prasad also stated that the State Police conducted the Investigation in a friendly manner.

“We will not spare anyone whose involvement is found in the incident,” stated Mr. Prasad.

Adding to this, the Advocate General also requested the Court to retain the Investigation with the State Police only.

“If this Bench still feels that a separate agency should look into it, the matter may please be entrusted to CID,” urged Mr. Prasad.

Furthermore, the Bench taking a note of CBI counsel K Surender and CBI SP Kalyan asked them about the workload. Replying to the Bench, K Surender stated that if the Court trusts them, they are ready to handle the investigation.

However, after the listening to all the Parties, the Court reserved its Order and stated that it will pass it soon.
