Supreme Court to hear Yamuna pollution matter on urgent basis

The Supreme Court has stated that it will hear the Yamuna contamination matter subsequent to a request filed by advocate Shadan Farasat, on behalf of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

Farasat urged for an emergency hearing in the matter, taking into account the use of water Holi celebrations, thereby increasing the chances of contamination.

The Court, presided by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde posted the matter for hearing for later.

Legal Advocate Shadan Farasat, representing the Delhi Jal Board referenced the matter before the Chief Justice of India and requested for an emergency hearing in the matter.

He informed the top Court that since the Holi festival is upcoming in a few days, and the demand for water will increase risking further contamination, the matter should be listed for a hearing urgently.

Farasat also submitted his contentions in the matter in regards to contamination in the Yamuna River and the decrease in the water supply.

He additionally said that Amicus Curiae (Friend of the Court) was likewise delegated by the three-judge bench.
