The Supreme Court has postponed a plea seeking to give directions to the Central Government to provide with a strict time frame within which matters relating to defection must be decided thereby laying down rules to be followed by Speakers and Chairman in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha of the Parliament.

In addition to this, the Plea also urged to give similar directions to the Speaker and Chairman of State Legislative Assembly and State Legislative Council respectively.

The 3-judge bench headed by CJI N.V Ramana postponed the petition stating that a similar issue has already been raised by the Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal and it was then left out for the legislatures to decide upon the same.

The Court asked the petitioner Ranjit Mukherjee represented by Advocate Srishti Agnihotri to read the judgement of the previous case and get back to the Apex Court after 2 weeks of the order.
