The horrifying daylight murder of Jharkhand’s Additional District Judge Uttam Anand was brought to the Supreme Court’s attention this morning by Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Vikas Singh, speaking before a bench led by Justice DY Chandrahcud, described the Judge’s murder by a jeep while he was out on a morning walk as a “brazen attack on the judiciary.”

Disturbing CCTV images of the vehicle attacking the Judge while he was out on a morning walk on a public road in Dhanbad had surfaced yesterday.

This is a matter which should go to the CBI. Local police are usually complicit in such matters. It is shocking. A Judge is on a morning walk and is hit by a vehicle. He was dealing with bail applications of gangsters. This is an attack on judicial independence“, Vikas Singh submitted before the bench.

Singh argued that the Supreme Court should take the case in its own motion.

The mention should be made before the Chief Justice of India, according to Justice Chandrachud. Singh, on the other hand, stated that mention would not be available before the CJI today. Justice Chandrachud stated that he will utilise his good offices to deliver the message to the Chief Justice of the United States.

Vikas Singh also agreed to try to make a reference before the CJI.
