The Supreme Court rejected an Application filed by the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple Trust (created by the erstwhile Travancore Royal Family) to be exempted from the Special Audit of 25 years ordered by the Supreme Court last year.

The Hon’ble Court stated, “The Special Audit was intended not to be confined to the Temple and included the Trust as well.”

Concerning the exemption from the Administrative Supervision of the Temple’s Administrative Committee, the Court stated that it requires factual analysis, and therefore the issue was entrusted to the consideration of a Competent Court.

On September 17, the Administrative Committee of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Kerala notified the Supreme Court that it is in financial trouble and that offerings were insufficient to cover expenditures, while seeking an Audit of the temple-related Trust managed by the Travancore Royal Family.

In light of the report submitted by the Temple’s Administrative Committee, the Court had directed that the Special Audit of the Trust be completed within three months.
