A farmer was Arrested by a special investigation team (SIT) investigating the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 3, 2021, in link with the Killing of three BJP workers. Gurpreet Singh, 22, has been missing since the SIT released images of the Accused nearly two months ago, according to Lakhimpur Kheri Police and senior Prosecution officer (SPO) SP Yadav. Thus so far, seven farmers have been Imprisoned in relation to the matter.

Vichitra Singh, Gurwinder Singh, Avtaar Singh, Ranjeet Singh, Kamaljeet Singh, and Kawaljeet Singh had previously been arrested by the SIT in relation with the killing of BJP staff.

An FIR was first filed against ‘Unknown Farmers’ relying on a Complaint from BJP worker Sumit Jaiswal, who is a co-accused, together with Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni’s son, Ashish Mishra, in link with the Deaths of four Farmers and a Journalist during the Violent action.

The Deaths of the Farmers and the Journalist, who were reportedly mowed down by Ashish’s convoy, were not mentioned in Jaiswal’s complaint.

Police filed the first FIR connected to the violent action after farmers filed a Complaint against Ashish Mishra and others. In that case, the SIT Imprisoned 13 people and labelled the incident ‘Planned.’

The Supreme Court reconstituted the SIT in November 2021, adding new members, IPS officers SB. Shiradkar, Preetinder Singh, and Padmaja Chauhan, as well as retired Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Rakesh Kumar Jain, to investigate the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. The SIT is anticipated to register a charge sheet in both Cases inside of two days, as the inquiry’s 90-day deadline expires on Tuesday.
