Shapoorji Pallonji group gets relief: Bombay HC gives nod to slum redevelopment project

The Bombay High Court has granted relief to the Shapoorji Pallonji group by approving the Mumbai slum rehabilitation project near World Trade Centre in South Bombay.

The court noticed that the slum dwellers have been waiting for rehabilitation for two decades.

A bench of Justice Nitin Jadhav and Justice Milind Jadhav heard the plea challenging the decision of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) to employ the redevelopment project to Precaution Properties Pvt Ltd.

The court also observed that the hardships of the slum dwellers cannot be set aside by courts on technical grounds.

The petitioners were Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Nagar Sahakari Griha Nirman Sanstha, and Dyna Estate Pvt Ltd. Senior Advocate Birendra Saraf represented the petitioners.

The rehabilitation project spreads around 113,321.54 square meters near the Cuff Parade area.

Advocate Aspi Chinoy, representing Precaution – Shapoorji Pallonji, argued to restrain the judicial scrutiny of the legitimacy of the Letter of Intent (LOI).
