Section 144 was imposed, prohibiting the gathering of people in response to the ‘Rail Roko’ agitation by the farmers.

The protest was called by the farmers who demanded the arrest and dismissal of Union Minister Ajay Misra in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

The Lucknow Police Commissioner stated in an Order that individuals who engage in anti-national activity would face severe consequences. In Lucknow, cops were stationed outside the houses of agricultural Union Officials.

The Police also said they would not shy away from applying the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against offenders who disrupt public peace.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of Farmers’ Unions spearheading the agitation against the Farm Laws, said all train traffic would be stopped for six hours from 10 am to 4 pm on 18th October.

In the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, eight people, including four farmers, were killed on October 3rd as violence erupted during a farmers’ protest.
