Supreme Court on Friday rejected an environmentalist’s plea calling for his appointment as President of India after removing current President Droupadi Murmu from the post.

The plea was strongly criticised by a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli, who called it scurrilous and an abuse of the legal system.

Additionally, it instructed the court registry not to accept similar applications going forward.

The petitioner claimed in his plea that he was denied the opportunity to contest the recent presidential election.

He urged that his voice be heard and that he would do his part to make the world a better place.

“Allow me to speak for two minutes. I’ll work for the entire world when things are messy, using recent examples from Sri Lanka where citizens broke into the president’s residence and what is occurring in Russia. The President’s function must be revised”, he said.

The Court ruled that while “you are an environmentalist you can make speeches with your specialised knowledge but not this.”

It then went on to reject the plea.

“The petition is frivolous and an abuse of the process of the Court, the allegations made are expunged from the record and Registry are requested not to entertain such pleas in the near future,” the Court ordered.
