SC to reassess situation regarding physical hearing in 2 weeks

The Supreme Court hinted at reassessing on if to resume physical hearings.

A bench headed by Justice Ashoke Bhushan stated while hearing a case, said that they intended to hear it after two weeks when they are aware of the status of physical hearings in the Supreme Court.

The case was regarding the Maratha reservation case, that was due to be heard on January the 25th but will now be heard after 2 weeks’ time to affirm the situation regarding physical hearing.

Last week on 12th January the SC had, with a three judge bench headed by CJI Bobde, ruled against petitions asking for physical hearings and had said they were regularly assessing the situation to see if the courts could physically open or not.

Justice Bhushan was very likely speaking of one of those assessments.

The remarks were made when Senior Counsel Mukul Rohtagi appeared for the Maha govt. stating difficulty in preparing for the case virtually with clients and asked the court to hold a physical hearing.

The Court decided to hear the matter again on 5th February when there would be instructions regarding the situation.
