The Supreme Court on Monday will look into the plea of ‘conman’ Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who is arrested and sent to Tihar jail for money laundering and defrauding several people. His wife has requested to transfer him out of Delhi fearing their lives are in danger.

It is expected that based on name of prisons provided by the Centre, the Vacation Bench of Justices CT Ravikumar and Sudhanshu Dhulia will pass order to shift Chandrashekhar and his spouse Leena Paulose.

Last year, accused Chandrashekhar was discovered bribing jail authorities up to Rs 60-75 lakh per fortnight to live in comfort with his wife. Now, he claims that he fears threat from the prison officials who are under the scanner for favoring him and his wife inside the jail here.

The counsel, Senior advocate Meenakshi Arora, appearing for Chandrashekhar and his wife, had said that the jailed couple are facing threats from police officials under arrest for taking “protection money” from him, and therefore, they filed plea to shift them to any prison of the court’s choice.

The senior lawyer had said the accused were willing to be shifted even to the Andaman jail.

The Bench of Friday ordered to list on Monday to enable the respondents (Centre and Delhi government) to take a decision on the appropriate jail to which the petitioners can be transferred.

The Additional Solicitor General K M Natraj, appearing for the Centre, sought time for providing the names of the jails.

On May 13, Centre assured the apex court about the security and safety of Chandrashekhar.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the accused on April 4 wanted in another money laundering matter linked to 2017 Election Commission bribery instance allegedly involving former AIADMK leader Dhinakaran and others.

The accused has duped prominent people including former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh’s wife Aditi Singh. He also used the name of the retired judge to get some favour. He is also accused of making forgery passes of MPs and car registration. The list of the cases against him is very long, therefore the bail plea of accused was not granted by this court.

A number of Bollywood actresses and models have also been questioned in this 2021 case by the ED for their alleged links to Chandrashekhar.
