The Supreme Court of India refuses to entertain the petition filed by Republic TV and its Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.

The bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud heard the petition.

The petition sought protection from the forceful illegitimate action of the police in Maharashtra against the employees of the news channel.

The plea argued that the Mumbai police was continuously persecuting Republic TV and its employees.

The petition also requested for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the matter.

But the court remarked that,

“This petition is ambitious in nature. You want Maharashtra police not to arrest any employee and transfer to CBI. You better withdraw this.”

Therefore Goswami’s counsel, Senior Advocate Milind Sathe, chose to withdraw the plea when the Court granted freedom to Goswami and Republic TV to move appropriate forum for relief.
