The Supreme Court directed the State of Kerala to complete the process of identification of posts for giving reservation in promotions for persons with disabilities.

The Bench comprising Justices LN Rao, BR Gavai and AS Bopanna directs state to submit Status report till 2nd week of July.

The Bench issued the directions in a Petition filed in the Civil Appeal where the Apex Court had declared that persons with disabilities have right to reservation in promotions.

A Petition was that the reservation for promotion in Civil Posts in Kerala has not been provided to the person with disabilities in spite of Courts’ repeated directions.

The State informed, in the counter Affidavit that 380 posts have been identified for the purpose of providing reservation to persons with disabilities.

The counsel for the contempt Petitioner had argued that the vacancies were not calculated in a proper manner and a decision had to be taken to provide reservation.

Considering another contempt Petition in which it was argued that he was not being considered for promotion to the IAS despite being successful before the Apex court.

The Supreme Court asked the Union to file an affidavit informing the court about the decision taken for implementation of the directions issued by this Court in Siddharaju’s Case.
