The Supreme Court directed status quo to be maintained in a matter relation to OBC reservations in Maharashtra local elections.

This means that the OBC quota cannot be implemented during the election process.

The special bench of the SC was deliberating on an application filed by the State of Maharashtra relating to restraining the State Election commission from re-notifying election process in 367 bodies.

The court had allowed OBC reservation in a previous order in July.

However, the court clarified that OBC reservation cannot be brought in the local bodies where the election process has been notified.
