SC Declines Bail to Pulsar Suni, a Prime Accused in 2017 Kerala Actress Assault Case

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court denied to grant Pulsar Suni bail in the case of Sunil NS v. State of Kerala, the prime accused in the 2017 Kerala actress assault case, in which popular Malayalam actor Dileep is also an accused.

After noting the survivor’s statement, a Bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and AS Oka observed that they did not see a reason to interfere the Kerala High Court’s order to refuse bail.

On Suni’s plea for bail, the Supreme Court had in April issued the State of Kerala notice.

Initially, Suni was also granted interim protection from arrest by a Bench of judges that comprised of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Bela M Trivedi. Suni however was already in jail and it was a regular bail plea, the Bench was informed.

Suni had moved to the court to challenge the Kerala High Court’s order to deny him bail on March 29. Suni’s plea stated that the investigating agency had begun further investigation after examination of almost all witnesses was complete.

The first accused in the infamous case, which is said to have been the result of a conspiracy hatched between the accused, is Sunil NS, also known by his moniker Pulsar Suni.

Allegedly, Suni told investigators that prominent figures of the Malayalam film industry, including Dileep, were not only involved in the crime but also its masterminds. The Additional Sessions (CBI special No. III) Court in Ernakulamis now hearing the case.
