SC appoints Justice V S Sirpurkar Commission to deal with Hyderabad encounter case

The Supreme Court has made an appointment of Justice V S Sirpurkar Commission, for looking upon the encounter of four people who were accused of rape and murder charges of a 26-year-old veterinarian in Chatanpally on December 6, 2019.

The Court has directed the state government to submit all its shreds of evidence in front of the commission which will be setting in the Telangana High Court.

The commission will look into 18 witnesses for the three consecutive days from 26th August to 28th August.

All four men were encountered in an exchange of fire by Cyberabad Police on December 6, 2019. The encounter happened when they were taken to the Chatanpally underpass which was 60km away from Hyderabad, on the National Highway towards Bangalore. The place of their encounter was the same were all the four accused set the victim’s body on fire in order to kill her and remove all of the shreds of evidence against their heinous crime.

The victim’s body was recovered on November 28 and a day later and with immediate effect, all the four accused were taken into custody.

According to the police, the four accused got control over the police’s guns and tried to fire on bodies were found them in order to escape so in order of self-defence the police officer had encountered them. Their body was recovered from an agriculture field around half a kilometre away from the underpass.

Concerning COVID-19 the commission has decided to hear the case in a hybrid form, which means few of the witnesses will be examined in the physical presence of the commission and some will be examined through virtual mode.

The commission will hear from the state government on August 21.
