On Friday, Mumbai City Civil Court refused to issue an interim restraining order in favour of actor Salman Khan, who is suing a neighbour for alleged defamation.

The Bollywood star has lodged a civil suit, claiming that Ketan Kakkad, who owns a piece of land near the actor’s farmhouse in Panvel, near Mumbai, defamed him during an interview with a YouTube channel.

Judge Anil H Laddhad instructed Kakkad to submit his reply and scheduled a hearing for January 21.

DSK Legal, which represents Khan, sought an interim injunction (order) prohibiting Kakkad from attempting to make any further defamatory statements while the Case was pending.

However, Kakkad’s lawyers, Abha Singh and Aditya Pratap, objected to the prayer, claiming that they only received the case papers on Thursday evening and were unable to go through the entire suit.

There was no rush, according to Advocate Singh, and if Khan waited a month to lodge the suit, Kakkad should be given some time to respond.

The hearing was then adjourned by Judge Laddhad. Khan, who lives in the Mumbai suburb of Bandra, owns a farmhouse in the neighbouring Raigad district of Panvel. Kakkad, a Mumbai citizen, owns a hillside plot next to Khan’s farmhouse.

As per Khan’s suit, Kakkad made derogatory remarks about the actor while speaking with a YouTuber. Two other people who took part in the series and are also named as respondents.
