Punjab & Haryana High Court grants protection to Woman converted from Islam to Hinduism to marry Hindu Man

The Punjab & Haryana High Court while hearing a plea filed by a woman who has converted her religion from Islam to Hinduism to marry a Hindu man, has granted the protection by directing the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, District Sangrur, Punjab to look into the matter.

The vacation bench headed by Justice Gurvinder Singh Gill stated, “In case, it is found that there is a genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners, then necessary steps warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners.”

The plea filed by Rajina @ Jyoti and her husband Jaspal Sharma sought protection to their lives and liberty, as they fear life threats because the couple got married going against their families.

The Court disposed of the matter concerning the validity of the marriage of the petitioners and gave directions to the Senior Superintendent of Police of Sangrur to take the charge in the case.

Looking at the related case, where the Delhi High Court has granted interim protection to a woman who converted her religion from Hinduism to Islam facing a severe threat to her life, the Punjab & Haryana High Court without regarding the veracity of the averments granted the protection to the woman looking upon the severeness of matter.
