The Punjab and Haryana High Court has requested new Status Reports on Criminal Cases involving MPs and MLAs in Punjab and Haryana.

The High Court Bench of Justices AG Masih and Sandeep Moudgil expressed satisfaction with the progress made by Police in following up on Criminal Cases in a detailed Order released on Friday.

Since February 2021, the High Court has been overseeing Investigations into Criminal Cases involving Lawmakers as a result of Supreme Court decisions.

The Court stated that the rate at which the Investigation is progressing in Haryana is unsatisfactory. Without going into further detail, the Court granted police six weeks after the Government’s Counsel told the Court that the Inspector General of Police is personally overseeing the Investigations and that every effort will be made to end them as soon as possible.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Courts have granted Stays in some of the Cases, and suitable applications have been filed for the Vacation of the same.

It was submitted that the Department of Income Tax and the Enforcement Directorate are not needed to File a new report because the Cases are pending before the High Court and the Apex Court, where the Authorities are pursuing the matter.
