The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday has granted interim anticipatory bail to former Punjab Director-General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini who was alleged with corruption charges in a particular case.

The single judge Bench of Justice Avneesh Jhingan granted interim anticipatory bail after hearing the contentions of both parties.

The Senior Advocate APS Deol and counsel Himmat Singh Deol represented the former Director-General of Police.

Saini moved to the High Court when the Mohali Court had quashed his anticipatory bail application.

The Mohali Court’s decision of not granting the interim anticipatory bail was because the case against Saini was registered after conducting a detailed inquiry. This inquiry was initiated by the VB on Joint Director’s complaint and was based on documents.

Whereas Saini from the starting of the inquiry on him has stated that these charges are false.

It was also contended that the corruption charges on him were the outcome of political vendetta and in line with the three earlier cases registered against him.
