The High Court of Punjab has issued notice to the central government and Punjab after Reliance Jio had filed a petition on January 4, 2021, seeking immediate intervention of government authorities in illegal acts of vandalism by miscreants.

The petition mentioned that 1500 telecom towers have been vandalized, affecting its 14 million customers from Punjab. It has also blamed the company’s rivals for taking advantage of ongoing farmers’ protests.

Farm unions have launched a campaign to force the three farm laws that will create a free market for the farmers. The law allows traders to stockpile essential aw commodities for future sales and lay down a national framework for contract farming.

The petitioner also mentioned that its parent company, Reliance Industries limited has “no interest” and does not “intend in the future to do corporate or contract farming.”

The plea said this vandalism endangered the lives of its employees and compelled its customers to port to other networks.

The company also sought the constitution of a competent authority under the Punjab Prevention of Damage to Public and Private Property Act for the assessment of losses caused to it.

The firm’s lawyer, Ashish Chopra, said that the high court has sought a reply from Punjab and Centre by February 8, 2021.
