President Ram Nath Kovind appoints new Governors in 4 States

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind has appointed new Governors in the 4 States i.e in Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Nagaland.

In the post of Governor of Uttarakhand, the President has appointed Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, who retired as the Deputy Chief of Army, when the post got vacant after Smt. Baby Rani Maurya resigned.

“The President of India has accepted the resignation of Smt. Baby Rani Maurya as Governor of Uttarakhand. Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd.) is appointed as Governor of Uttarakhand,” a notification from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said

The notification by the President also ordered shuffling of Governors of some states which includes shifting Banwarilal Purohit from Tamil Nadu to Punjab.

“Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Tamil Nadu holding additional charge of the Governor of Punjab is appointed as regular Governor of Punjab,” the President’s order said.

The Centre’s interlocutor and retired IPS officer RN Ravi has been shifted from Nagaland to Tamil Nadu, being appointed as new Governor.

“Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi is been assigned with the additional responsibility of Nagaland until regular arrangements are made,” the communique said.

“The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices,” the official notification specified.
