On November 27, 2021 the President of India Ram Nath Kovind in his speech emphasized how the Judiciary needs to exercise utmost discretion to avoid misinterpretations, during the celebrations of the Constitution Day in New Delhi.

President Ram Nath Kovind also promised to bring reforms in the Judiciary for more reliable, accessible and speedy justice for the citizens of the country and also expressed his will in encouraging gender balance in the Judiciary.

In the presence of Chief Justice of India, High Court Judges and the Law Minister, President Ram Nath Kovind mentioned an excerpt from late United States’ Supreme Court Judge Felix Frankfurter’ speech, “History teaches us that the independence of the judiciary is jeopardized when courts become embroiled in the passions of the day, and assume primary responsibility in choosing between competing political, economic and social pressure.” 

The President also expressed his dismay and concern over the belittling comments made about the Judiciary on social media platforms. The President stated,These platforms have worked wonderfully to democratize information, yet they have a dark side. The anonymity granted by them is exploited by some miscreants.” 

President Ram Nath Kovind also mentioned how a small section of the citizens of our country are still not able to approach the Judiciary to seek justice, President noted, “I wish to see increased access to legal aid and advisory services for all.”

President Ram Nath Kovind also highlighted the issue of pendency of cases in courts, and noted,“The issue of pendency has ramifications for economic growth and development too. It is high time all stakeholders find a way out by keeping national interest above all. Technology can be a great ally in this process.”
