The Bombay High Court quashed a Petition filed by actor Kangana Ranaut. The Petition wanted the Court to give orders of cancellation of the proceedings which were being initiated against her on a complaint registered by Javed Akhtar.

The Single Bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere said, “The applicant’s (Kangana Ranaut’s) petition stands dismissed.”

Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee represented Kangana Renaut had challenged the defamation case proceedings on the actor.

The proceedings were initiated by the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, the actor contends that the Court had failed to apply its mind in the case.

Advocate Jay Bharadwaj representing Javed Akhtar informed the High Court that the Magistrate had issued directions to the police for inquiry.

Last year, in December Javed Akhtar, filed a criminal complaint against Kangana Ranaut for giving making defamatory and baseless comments against him in a television interview, interviewed by journalist Arnab Goswami.

In December 2020, the Court had ordered the Juhu police to inquire into Javed Akhtar’s complaint and then initiated criminal proceedings against her and had also issued summons to her in February 2021.
