A Public Interest Litigation has been filed before the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to the center and the office of Labour Commissioner of Delhi to consider constituting a welfare board for home nurses and domestic workers.

The petition was filed by the NGO Distress Management Collective which said that the precarious scenario and exploitation of this vulnerable class of women compelled it to approach the High Court.

The petitioner stated that there is a dire need for a welfare board. During the pandemic, nurses and domestic workers faced exploitation in the hands of placement agencies and employers.

The plight of such workers is a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution which includes the right to a safe working environment for women who hail from poor backgrounds.
