Patna Blast Case: Special NIA Court Punishes 9 Accused

A Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Patna has convicted 9 Accused out of 10 who were found guilty in the Gandhi Maidan, Patna serial Blasts Case.

The Special Court released one Accused because of lack of evidence against him.

The nine Convicted Accused are named as Numan Ansari, Haider Ali alias “Black Beauty”, Mohammed Mujibullah Ansari, Umar Siddiqui, Azharuddin Qureshi, Ahmed Hussain, Faqruddin, Mohammed Iftekhar Alam, and a minor, whose identity has been protected.

The blasts took place at the Gandhi Maidan, Patna during the “Hunkar” rally of the then Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

On the day of rally, a total of 6 blasts had taken place around the venue and moreover two bombs just went off within 150 metres Modi’s podium from where he delivered his speech.

The last bomb went off just 20 minutes before when Modi and top BJP leaders used the stage and later four more live bombs were found.

The blasts happened on October 27, 2013 killed around 6 people and over 90 were Injured.

However, the Bihar Police Denied it to be called as a terror attack, but the then Director General of Police Abhayanand had confirmed the use of IED and timers.

The Case was handed to NIA on November 6, 2013, and Investigating, it filed a charge sheet against the 11 Accused on August 21, 2014.

The NIA in its Official release had stated that the Patna blasts was planned after facing several failed attempts in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Delhi.

It should be noted that the convicted Accused belonged Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and their one member Tariq Ansari Died while trying to plant a bomb inside a public toilet in Patna.
