The National Medical Commission (NMC) was granted permission by the Supreme Court on Friday to extend the deadlines for admission to MBBS and postgraduate medical courses for the academic year 2022–23 until December 20 and November 25, respectively.
To fill all-India quota seats as well as quota seats in regional and central institutions and states, the extension for PG medical courses was approved.
The applications were approved by a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli, who noted that the NMC’s rationale was “bonafide.”
Since COVID-19, NMC had asked for a change in the timetable, and state constraints had caused the start of the previous academic session to be postponed.
The council had also stated that the authorities would not be able to finish the admissions procedure by the deadline required by law.
“Due to delay for completing the admission in MBBS courses for 2021-22, the process of admission in 2022-23 could not be commenced as per the schedule,” NMC had stated.
It had recently released a timeline for 2022-2023 medical admissions.
