Nepal’s top court will start hearing the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the Lower House from 23rd December onwards.
The bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana will hear 11 out of 12 petitions today.
On the recommendation of Prime Minister of Nepal – K P Sharma Oli, the President had dissolved the House of Representatives.
This invited 12 petitions in the Supreme Court seeking the move to be declared unconstitutional.
Dinesh Tripathi, one of the petitioners, said, “Under the constitution, the prime minister has no prerogative to dissolve parliament.”
He further said, “It’s a constitutional coup. I’m seeking a stay order from the court.”
Oli had earlier said that he was forced to do so after he knew of a plan of moving a vote of no-confidence against the Prime Minister.
PM further said that he was victimized for “enhancing national pride by publishing a map with the inclusion of Kalapani and Lipulekh.”
