A team of NIA officials on Monday visited the Thane residence of Mansukh Hiran. He was found dead on March 5 where his body was found floating in Mumbra creak.

Hiran was allegedly murdered days after his SUV was found with explosives near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence in February.

The NIA team is investigating the current murder case as well as the case related to recovery of the explosives.

So far, the NIA has made four arrests in the case including suspended cop API Sachin Vaze and his associate API Riyaz Kazi.

The NIA team, comprising Inspector General of Police Gyanendra Verma, Superintendent of Police Vikram Khalate and other officers, visited Vikas Palms Complex around 2 pm. An NIA team had also visited Hiran’s home on March 11.

“The NIA team came to meet us since a new officer has joined the investigation. The visiting officers also discussed the status of investigation in the case,” said Vinod Hiran, brother of late Hiran.

A case of murder was registered against unidentified persons by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (MATS), which was then investigating the case. The NIA subsequently took over the probe.

The NIA has invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against Vaze. Before Vaze and Kazi were arrested by the NIA , both were working with the crime intelligence unit of Mumbai police.
