A Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday cancelled its proclamation Offender order against Param Bir Singh in an extortion case registered against him in suburban Goregaon.

Singh had gone to the Magistrate Court to Appeal an order from the city Police on November 17 that authorized them to declare him an absconding suspect in an extortion case.

The State Government, through Special Public Prosecutor Shekhar Jagtap, requested that Param Bir Singh’s appeal be dismissed, claiming that he was well aware of the current FIR and proceedings against him and had absconded and concealed himself from the Court and the Investigating agency.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S B Bhajipale issued the order. The reasoned order will most likely be made public in the near future.

The case stems from a Complaint submitted by Bimal Agarwal, a hotelier and civic contractor, on which the Goregaon Police Arrested Singh, Riyaz Bhati, Vinay Singh, Sumit Singh, and Alpesh Patel, as well as the now-retired Mumbai cop Sachin Waze.

Param Bir, along with Waze, who is currently in Jail for his alleged role in the Ambani house bomb scare and the Mansukh Hiran Murder case, allegedly extorted Rs 11.92 lakh in cash and jewellery from Agarwal. The case was first filed at the Goregaon Police station, where he was charged with Extortion, Criminal conspiracy, and common Intent, before being transferred to Crime Branch Unit XI.

In addition to Singh, the Police had sought to have Co-Accused Vinay Singh and Bhati declared missing. The Court had previously issued a non-Bailable warrant against the three Defendants, as well as allowing an application declaring them absconding Defendants.

Param Bir Singh appeared before the Crime Branch in Mumbai on November 25 in connection with the extortion case, only days after the Supreme Court gave him protection from Arrest.
