The multi-agency team tasked to bring back the fugitive jeweller, Mehul Choksi heads back from Dominica after the Nation’s High Court adjourned his habeas corpus petition till July and extended its order on removing him from the country.

The 8 member team, hoping to bring Choksi back to India, is flying back home from Qatar Airways private jet from Dominica’s Melville Hall Airport.

In addition to adjourning the petition, the Court also refused his bail plea as he was charged for illegally entering the country.

The lawyers on behalf of Choksi argued that other non-nationals had earlier received bail on similar matters but the government is willing to tag Choksi as a flight risk and pointed Interpol notices against him.

Choksi is alleged for trying to escape from Antigua to Cuba via Dominica after which Antigua came in favour of India saying Choksi must be handed over to India directly.

Choksi had earlier fled to Antigua in 2018 after CBI and Enforcement Directorate investigations were picking up pace into the loan fraud case against him.
