The Madras High Court quashed the Plea filed by IPS Officer G Sampath Kumar seeking to set aside the Defamation Case initiated against him by Cricketer Mahindra Singh Dhoni.

Justice N Seshasayee dismissed the Petition by Kumar stating that “Any Order at this stage would certainly affect the progress of the main case pending from 2014.”

At the outset, MS Dhoni had filed a Defamation case of Rs. 100 crore for the damages from the TV media firm and others for telecasting the malicious news that he was a part of the betting, spot and match fixing of IPL matches in 2014.

MS Dhoni requested the Court to refrain the Defendants, including Kumar from publishing any statements with regard the same.

Captain of Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni had filed the Case claiming that the Defendants had been making derogatory, defamatory and libelous statements and articles since 11 February, 2014.

The cricketer contended that the Defendants were only focused on maligning his character and public image in the eyes of the millions of his fans.

Justice S Tamilvan (Retd) passed the Interim Injunction earlier, refraining the Defendants from making any statements or articles.

Troubled with the Case proceedings, Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer G Sampath Kumar, one of the Defendants filed the Petition challenging the Defamation Suit (2014). He claimed that the only reason behind this Petition was only to gag him.
